Another Silver Brumby character

 I managed to finish another horse!

This model is another one for my Silver Brumby project. This is my interpretation of Tambo, son of Highland Lass ("Lubra") and mate of Thowra's daughter Kunama ("Ritza"). He is made on the Breyer G2 Arabian that I have customized very slightly.

I evened out his dished face. I also had thoughts of adding some feathering to his legs but I actually forgot about it so I explain it with that his mother (and probably father) was once owned by humans and I imagine that he might be slightly "finer" than the wildbred Brumbies because of that.

I'm quite happy with him and can't wait until I get the chance to make some more of the Silver Brumby characters as they are a nice distraction between other models.

 I think he will look really cool in an environment that I hope to make one day.

Tambo is the 14th model I've finished this year (not counting my newly finished portrait of Hjalmar) and I'm quite proud about that fact and actually look forward to finish a few more this year 😊

State of the projects

Once again some small progress on my projects.

The base for Hjalmar is now of the right height. Next step is paint and then some scenic scatter to resemble grass. The "pillar" will be covered in miniature fake leaves to resemble a pile of leaves.

My stable got a window from some clear packaging from a Breyer package and I also framed the window with wooden sticks that I painted black. The door will be framed the same way.

The white tiger has gotten some of her markings outlined in dark grey coloured pencil.

When they are all outlined I plan to go over them with brown and black to give them the right colour and appearances.

Even though I have a long way to go it feels like every stripe just makes her come alive.

 I have tried to tweak Tambo's marking to make it a bit more natural. He will have his white legs painted with a few more layers and then only details left.

The Ardennes got some more layers left on the feathers before I call them done and then it's onto mane, tail and details.

A little bit of everything

At the moment I have a really hard time sticking to just one project. So at the moment I have a few different ones simultaneously in the works.

My "stable" has had the inside painted:

I've also started removing some ears and manes on a few poor models, preparing them for some resculpting.

I just blocked in the mane and tail so that I get a better feeling for how dark the body colour really gets as I have some layers left on it.

It's nice to see some projects moving forward!

Finished horses!

These models were too far along last year to make me count them towards my "paint at least 10 models" goal for 2017 but I have finished them none the less.

The first one is Black Glitter N. He has been in the works for far longer than I'd like to admit. During his first appearance as Black Glitter he had a star and some white on his legs but when I redid him I really liked the look of a sleek, all black horse so he ended up with no white at all.

I quite like how he turned out, with some subtle brown tones in his coat.

I tried a different technique for his eyes than I usually do. I combined coloured pencils with acrylics and even added in a bit of gold acrylics.

Now I can finally call him finished and be happy to say that he is standing in the shelf with my other Schleich models.

The second one I've finished is another black horse (I like to paint models in "colour batches" so that's why I finished several black models now). This is Highland Lass (Lubra) for my Silver Brumby project.

This girl looks more brown in pictures than she does in real life but I still think she came out good. The prep work on her is not well done at all but this model is supposed to represent a horse that has been living in the wild and she will remain in my collection and be used for photos only so it doesn't matter to me that she's not perfect.

I can't wait 'til I get more models for the Silver Brumby project finished so that I can start making up the scenes and take photos of them!

Some time off

As the title says I'll have some time off the next week and a half, off of work that is. So except for a trip home to visit my dear animals (and unpack the quite large amount of packages that awaits me at home *hinthint* blog posts coming up!) my only plan is to get along painting several of my model horses!

I thought I should share some pictures of the current state of my works in progress so that I (and you) can hopefully see the difference when I post about them next.

This braided Warmblood has been in the works for a while and at the moment he is getting some slight shading. I had just sprayed him with dullcote before this picture, that's why he looks glossy.

This Britain's horse is planned to be a dark bay Ardennais but at the moment I'm quite tempted to just shade it a bit more and keep it as a blonde Belgian horse.

This is Black Glitter N. He just needs his details and maybe some markings done before being finished. I really like the slight brown shadings in his coat. 

 Dimma also needs her details done before being finished, she too has some slight brown shading.

This is Lubra or Highland Lass for my Silver Brumby Project and she needs her details done before being finished.

This little toyhorse (I think she's a Britain's too) will be a Fjord and even though she looks pretty much white in this picture, she is actually a nice creamy base colour.

The same goes for this litte filly foal. She will also be a Fjord and although she doesn't look quite as white as the above, she has the same nice cream base colour.

Dino, my Hjalmar portrait is coming along great and I think I have captured his slight brown shading quite well. He will need a base or acrylic pegs to stand correctly and his details done to be finished but I really like him so far!

This girl will be a chocolate lab and is currently sporting her base coat with no shading what so ever but hopefully that will change soon :)

I still have a lot of models in my body box but hopefully, after this week, all of them will, at least, be primed and ready for paint!

Painting Progress

I'm working on three resins right now. That's quite scary but as a fellow hobbyist (and customizer) told me when encouraging me to try; the worst thing that can happen is that you need to strip and reprime if you're not happy with it.

My first victim is my poor mini Haggis who've been standing naked in my shelves for 9 years. Yep, 9 years. Except for some drip marks around his neck and shoulder (because my sealer was almost out and acted up), I'm quite happy with the look so far.

He's only gotten two layers of pastels so far but at least he is less naked then ever so I'm happy :)

Quintessance had to be redone due to a broken ear and she's been fighting me quite a while in her two coats of pastels. Managing to fall over both times with her sealer still wet... Hopefully I'll get that fixed...

Bat girl is my last resin and she's been cooperating quite nicely and going along (only two layers in).

She will be a chestnut splash white overo, I think.

This is Lubra or Highland Lass from the Silver Brumby series, she needs to have a few more coats of colour and details done.

This little dog will be a portrait of Oreo who I met at the farm I was volountering at in South Africa. She has a few coats of colour left and details before being considered done.

Please excuse my fingers in the picture. I have been lazy and haven't made him a base yet. His paint wasn't even dry when I took the picture. He still needs a few coats before I can start darkening him (he will be black, a portrait of our late rottweiler-cross Hjalmar).

Apoxie Adventures Part 2

Here are my apoxie adventures, all dressed up in white!

This stablemate jumper was my first ever attempt at resculpting a mane and tail.

I'm quite happy with the mane, considering it's my first attempt (eventhough I think that they are a little big).

I'm not as happy with the tail but for a first try I think it's okey.

I think his forelock braid turned out really, really cute.

This rearing arabian only got a minor facelift with me straightening out his dished profile. But I really like his new profile. He will be Tambo from the Silver Brumby series.

This little mare started her life as a stablemate arabian mare. She lost a leg from falling out of the bodybox when I was moving. So I had to sculpt a new one (which was my first leg and it is definitely not perfect). I also resculpted her mane, tail, forelock, gave her some fetlock hair and straightened out her profile.

You can see that the leg is a bit wonky. But I'm quite happy with her overall look.

I really like what the forelock and straight profile does to her face, it's so cute.

This little lady is probably the one I'm most happy with so far.

Her braids are smaller and more even than my first try (remember that this is only my third try at sculpting a mane and second try making it braided).

The tail is also better but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Her little forelock braid is also very cute!

I can't wait to get them all painted up!
