I'll start
with an apology. I promised you lots of pictures from the show but of course
I'm stupid enough to forget my camera where I stayed and I couldn't go back and
get it... So unfortunately the only picture I can show you at present, is the
one taken before I left. Fortunately not everyone at the show was as
absent-minded as me so there are pictures. I have asked a fellow hobbyist if I
may use her pictures in a post at this blog so that I can give you a real show
report.
My neighbours must've thought I was moving when I carried all the boxes to my car ;) |
No, I'm not moving, this is what I brought with me to the liveshow. 4 boxes of horses and one bag of performance props. What started out as a list of 45 horses ended up being 32 horses to show in halter (two of them also showed in performance), 4 dogs to show in the other animals class and 8 performance horses.
It was almost exactly a 3 hour drive to where I would stay and since we would start on Saturday morning I decided to drive on Friday.
I was definitely not as structured as I used to be when going to liveshows. So next time I will go back to my structured, well-planned me, then I'll probably not forget my camera ;-)
Anyway, liveshows in Sweden looks a little different then American liveshows. Mostly because the hobby isn't as big here. And the structure of a show might differ a little from show to show. At this show we had a halter show, a performance show, a fantasy show and a show for other animals (dogs, rats, cows and so on).

In the halter show we had the following divisions:
Stockhorse
Other Equine
Foal
Arabian
Warmblood
Drafter
Thoroughbred and Standardbred
European
Other American
Pony
Asian/African/Oceanian
Wild and Crossbred
In every division there are lots of classes, the winner of every class in a division was called back and voted for to be Champion in the division, after the champion was crowned the reserve was next to be voted for. Then the best OF horse from each class in the division was called back and the voting for best OF began. Once the best OF was crowned the best novice horse in each class was called back and then we voted for best novice horse.

When all division champions and reserves were crowned they were called back for the Best In Show and Best In Show Reserve voting. Also best overall OF and best overall novice were crowned.
The performance show had 3 divisions:
English
Western
Other
The fantasy show consisted of 7 classes of which the winner in each class went up for Best in Show fantasy and reserve. The other animals show had 8 classes and used the same structure as the fantasy show.
Stay tuned for the next post of show report and hopefully pictures! ;-)
